Swedish Mora Longcase Clock

£3,800.00Price
Quantity

A charming antique Swedish Mora clock, dating from the early 19th century. The case retains its original painted finish in a beautiful aged teal tone with delicate hand-painted red floral decoration. The elegant curved Mora form is typical of clocks produced in the Mora region of Dalarna, Sweden, where local craftsmen built these distinctive longcase clocks between the late 1700s and mid-1800s.

The clock features a round painted dial with Arabic numerals and aged brass hands, housed within a softly worn wooden surround that adds wonderful character and authenticity. The long slender body and bulbous waist are classic features of Mora clocks, designed to be both decorative and functional in traditional Scandinavian homes.

Originally, Mora clocks were handmade in rural Swedish workshops during the winter months by farmers supplementing their income. Each case was individually painted and decorated, making every example unique.

This piece has a particularly attractive patina and a wonderfully rustic presence, making it ideal for farmhouse, country house, or Scandinavian-inspired interiors.
